Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday.
Your gift on the 29th of November could help a neighbor in need like Wendy…
A single mom of two elementary-school aged girls, Wendy was working long hours, but just barely making ends meet on her wages from her job in the industrial park. Then her hours were cut. Around the same time her oldest got sick, requiring a pricey prescription. Wendy tried supplementing her income by waitressing, but with rent, childcare and medical bills mounting, she quickly began to fall further and further behind. Soon she lost her apartment and she and the girls were living out of Wendy’s small sedan.
When Wendy had all but given up hope, enter Northwest Compass. Because of caring individuals like you, Northwest Compass is able to help our neighbors through crisis. The dedicated staff of NWC Housing was able to get Wendy and the girls into transitional living, while NWC Food Connection helped Wendy stretch her budget by providing healthy food support. Wendy was referred to NWC empowerment services like Credit Counseling, Money Matters and Career Coaching to help her find ways to better her future.
Today, Wendy has a new job as a receptionist in a medical office with full-time benefits, and she and her daughters are back in their own apartment, saving up for a down payment on a home.
There are hundreds of Wendys in our neighborhoods. Without the support of a caring community, we would not be able to continue helping our neighbors turn crisis into opportunity.
