At NorthWest Compass, we are continually inspired by the generosity and compassion of our community partners. This September, during Hunger Action Month, one partner in particular reminded us of the power of collective action: Church of the Incarnation United Methodist.
With dedication and a spirit of service, the church successfully collected more than 180 pounds of canned goods to support families and individuals experiencing food insecurity in the northwest suburbs. This remarkable contribution is more than just a donation of food — it is a lifeline for neighbors facing difficult choices between paying rent, covering medical bills, or keeping food on the table.
Every September, organizations across the country shine a spotlight on the issue of hunger and the urgent need to address food insecurity in our communities. Here in suburban Cook County, the need is real. Thousands of households struggle daily to maintain access to nutritious meals, and for many, even a small setback can lead to crisis.
At NorthWest Compass, our mission is to move people from crisis to opportunity. Through integrated services — including housing support, crisis counseling, and food assistance — we help stabilize lives and build paths to greater independence. Efforts like the food drive at Church of the Incarnation United Methodist directly strengthen this mission, ensuring our shelves are stocked and families can find hope when they walk through our doors.
What makes this effort so powerful is not just the weight of the food collected, but the spirit behind it. Hunger is not an isolated issue; it often intersects with housing instability, unemployment, or unexpected medical expenses. By stepping forward, the church community demonstrated what it means to be part of a compassionate network of care — one where neighbors support neighbors and no one is left behind.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Church of the Incarnation United Methodist for their extraordinary commitment to helping others. Their generosity is a reminder that real change is possible when we come together.
But the fight against hunger doesn’t stop here. As Hunger Action Month reminds us, there is always more work to be done — and always a role for you to play.
