About Housing Assistance
Northwest Compass provides practical, coordinated support for individuals and families facing housing instability across the Northwest Suburbs of Cook County.
From preventing eviction to finding stable housing solutions, we help simplify complicated systems, connect you with resources, and stay with you as long as needed so you don’t have to face it alone.
How We Help
Housing support may include:
- Street Outreach
- Homelessness diversion and prevention, including landlord mitigation and emergency housing counseling
- Help navigating rental assistance programs and applications
- Solution-focused case management and personalized support
- Connections to one of our housing programs, including Transitional Housing, Rapid Re-housing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Youth Housing (ages 18-24)
- Weekly financial literacy and money management classes
- Limited legal assistance
While we work hard to find solutions, Northwest Compass cannot guarantee direct housing provision or financial assistance.
Our role is to help navigate options, coordinate resources, and advocate alongside you to find the best possible path forward.
Coordinated Entry
As a member of the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County, Northwest Compass is striving to eliminate homelessness, making it rare, brief, and one-time.
Entry Point is the Coordinated Entry (CE)—a community-wide system that connects people experiencing homelessness and housing instability with the resources they need.
Since the beginning of 2017, Northwest Compass has moved from planning to implementation of the Coordinated Entry (CE) system as a Lead agency in the Northwest, launching a system that standardizes and expedites the process by which people experiencing homelessness, or who are at imminent risk of homelessness, access shelter, housing, and additional resources.
If you need financial assistance with mortgage, rent payments, rent deposits, utility payments, or other housing issues, please call the Homeless Prevention Call Center at 1-877-4-Cook-15 (1-877-426-6515) or visit our office, one of their walk-in centers.
