Not long ago, Lori was thriving. She was married, raising two children, financially stable, and deeply respected in her profession. But everything changed when prolonged exposure to a gas leak and mold in her workplace caused devastating health complications, including strokes, heart conditions, and kidney disease.
As Lori fought for her life in the hospital, her husband told her he no longer loved her, could not manage a chronically ill wife, and was leaving her.
Suddenly, Lori was facing a painful divorce, overwhelming medical challenges, and the loss of nearly everything she had built. When she was discharged from the hospital, she had nowhere to go. With no support system and no stable housing, Lori became homeless — living in her car for more than a year.
She was exhausted, frightened, and losing hope.
Then someone connected her to Northwest Compass.
Lori met Anna, a caring member of our staff, who immediately went to work helping her secure a permanent apartment and connecting her to food assistance and financial support so she could begin rebuilding her life.
Not long afterward, Lori suffered a heart attack in her new apartment. Thankfully, she survived, and later told us: |
“I would have died alone in my apartment had it not been for Northwest Compass. Northwest Compass found me and saved my life.” |
Stories like Lori’s are why Northwest Compass exists. And because of supporters like you, Lori survived.
Every day, individuals and families in our community come to us facing impossible choices—whether they will have food on the table, a safe place to sleep, or the support they need to move forward. Time and again, Northwest Compass steps in during moments of crisis and helps transform fear and instability into safety, hope, and opportunity. But we cannot do this work alone.
